20 Healthy Travel Snacks
Heading out on a road trip or have a long day away from home? Don’t forget healthy travel snacks!
When you have healthy snacks on hand, you won’t find yourself skipping meals (and overeating when you finally get home) or eating whatever junk or fast food you can grab while on the road.
Many of these can be found en route at convenience stores, but do your future self a favor and plan ahead. Pack a small insulated cooler or bag for the trip.
- Protein bar
- Shaker bottle with protein powder
- Protein shake
- Single-serving packets of nuts
- Single-serving packets of nut butter
- Single-serving packets of seed butter
- Hard boiled eggs
- Jerky
- Tuna packets
- Yogurt
- Granola
- Trail mix
- Beet chips
- Kale chips
- Raw veggies (baby carrots, celery, sugar snap peas, sliced cucumbers)
- Fruit (apples, grapes, bananas)
- Single-serving bean snacks
- Single-serving chips
- Single-serving crackers

Keep in mind, portion size is important even when eating healthy snacks. Prevent overeating with single-serving packs. You can either buy single-serving packs or portion snacks yourself ahead of time using small containers.
Most importantly, stay hydrated! Many of these healthy travel snacks are very dry. Unlike whole and fresh foods, these processed foods (like jerky, kale/beet chips, dried fruit in trail mix) have very little water content. Plus, you already know drinking plenty of water is a strategy to prevent overeating.
Stock up on non-perishable healthy travel snacks so you’ll have one less worry when heading out for a trip or a busy day of appointments or errands.
